Woodleigh School is seeking a Sessional Instrumental Music Tutor at our Junior Campus Minimbah in Frankston South and Senior Campus in Langwarrin South.

The role of the appointed Instrumental Music Tutor (guitar) will be to join a dynamic teaching group at our Minimbah campus initially, then with a strong possibility of also working with secondary students at our senior campus. This position is sessional, commencing term 1 2020.

Instrumental Tutor Responsibilities:
As one of our guitar tutors you will be responsible for delivering guitar lessons to Primary age students at our Junior Campus, Minimbah, in Frankston South with the strong possibility of also tutoring students at the Senior Campus in Langwarrin South. There is potential for the successful candidate to also be involved in the contemporary music program, working with bands and small ensembles. There is also a high likelihood for growth in student numbers.
Key requirements for this role include:
- Demonstrated proficiency of technical skill and musicianship, specific to guitar.
- Advanced skills as a guitar Tutor.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of current AMEB/ANZCA syllabus.
- A demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with students that build and maintain student engagement and retention.
- A demonstrated ability to enthuse, motivate and encourage students to participate in ensembles.
- A current Working with Children Check is essential for this position.
- Be an advocate for and promote Music and The Arts within the wider Woodleigh School community.
- Support the wider Woodleigh Music Program, including school music events such as soirees, assemblies and major concerts.
- Differentiate teaching programs to ensure individual needs of students are met
- Employ a range of effective teaching strategies to successfully engage and inspire individual students
- Reflect on and assess the effectiveness of your teaching.
- Monitor individual students and provide meaningful feedback, informally and formally through semester reporting.
- Communicate efficiently and professionally with students and parents, and colleagues.
- Keep records of communications with student’s families
- Ensure lesson records are updated and filed.
- Assist in the maintenance of Woodleigh instruments.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Work within the guidelines of the Woodleigh ICT policy.
- Appropriately use ICT to support individual student learning and resourcing within private music lessons.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience or skills in the following areas:
- An understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children.
- Relevant instrumental teaching experience or experience working with children.
- Relevant professional music industry experience.
- Professional practice that is strongly aligned with the expectations of the Woodleigh teacher.

Education and Qualifications:
- Appropriate tertiary qualification in Education is preferred.
- Professional experience in the music industry.
- Be committed to working on continuing to develop skills as a musician and music educator.
- Experience in designing, implementing and assessing effective music teaching strategies.
- A knowledge of and experience with current educational trends in arts education.
- A knowledge of and experience with the application of ICT in education.
- Expertise with experiential, project based and problem-based learning approaches.
Conditions of Employment:
- A VIT registration is preferred for this position
- Qualification and first aid training confirmation is required for this position.
