The Sessional Music Teacher – Piano, supports the wider Woodleigh Music Program and encourages the students in their musical pursuits. This is a sessional position commencing in Term 2, 2021.
Position: Sessional Music Teacher – Piano
Campus: Woodleigh School Senior Campus, Minimbah and Penbank
Reports to: Director of Music and Arts Learning Area Leader; Penbank Head of Campus and Director of Music; Minimbah Head of Campus and Director of Music; Head of Senior Campus
Collaborates with: Directors of Music and Arts Learning Area Leader
Key Relationships: Music Department, Arts Faculty Members, students, parents and staff
An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher of piano to support our primary and secondary students at both junior campuses (Penbank and Minimbah), as well as our senior campus. There is currently a waiting list of students seeking piano lessons and an opportunity to grow this position over time.
Teaching Music responsibilities:
- Support the wider Woodleigh Music Program, including concerts and performances, productions and assemblies.
- Be an advocate for and promote music and the arts within the wider Woodleigh community.
- Reflect on and assess the effectiveness of teaching.
Assessment and Reporting
- Monitor each student and provide meaningful feedback.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues and parents concerning student progress.
- Write formal academic reports aligned to the Woodleigh Reporting Style Guide.
- Keep accurate records of communications regarding student progress.
- Demonstrate a continued development of ICT training as required.
- Work within the guidelines of the Woodleigh ICT Policy.
- Promote an engaging environment of dynamic, inquiry learning.
- Contribute to the maintenance of the Woodleigh Music Department and monitor spaces and equipment.
- Create a positive environment where every student has the opportunity to learn
- Undertake other duties as required and which are relevant to the position, as directed by the Woodleigh School Directors of Music and Woodleigh School Arts Learning Area Leader.
- Set personal goals and in the area of professional learning and participate in the professional development processes used by Woodleigh School.
- Maintain relationships with professional colleagues and associations.
- Other duties as required.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience or skills in the following areas:
Experience and Skills
- An understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children
- Relevant classroom teaching experience or experience working with children
- Professional practice that is strongly aligned with the expectations of a Woodleigh School teacher
- Knowledge of the AMEB Syllabus and ANZCA Syllabus
- Well-developed ICT skills
- A high level of musical/instrumental proficiency
- Ability to work as part of a team
- High levels of communication (written and oral) with parents, students and institutions
- Ability to maintain strong relationships with staff
- Ability to model the attributes of a life-long learner
- A willingness to innovate and encourage the development of creativity
- Positive and courteous
Education and Qualifications
- Appropriate tertiary qualification in education is preferred
- A commitment to Woodleigh’s Values of Respect for Self, Respect for Others and Respect for the Environment
- A commitment to the School’s co-curricular, experiential and outdoor education programmes
- The determination to strive for personal best
- A willingness to innovate and encourage the development of creativity
- Be committed to working on continuing to develop skills as a musician and music educator
- Experience in designing, implementing and assessing effective curriculum
- Knowledge of and experience with current educational trends in arts education
- Knowledge of and experience with the application of ICT in education
- Accompaniment skills
Conditions of Employment
- A VIT Registration is preferred for this position
- A Working with Children’s Check is required for this position.
- Qualification and First Aid Training confirmation are required for this position.
