The Woodleigh Institute at Woodleigh School convened its annual conference, ReimaginED, last week. This year’s conference explored the pathways and possibilities for senior secondary education in Australia. The sold-out event brought together a diverse community of teachers, principals, researchers, university administrators, government officials, and business and community leaders. The topics discussed on the day included innovation in teaching and learning, more holistic forms of assessment, new ways of recognising learner success, and the development of new credentials.

The conference featured several national and global thought leaders, including Jan Owen AM (Learning Creates Australia), Professor Sandra Milligan (University of Melbourne), Professor Martin Westwell (SACE), Hayley McQuire (Learning Creates Australia) and Scott Looney (Mastery Transcript Consortium, Hawken School). One highlight of the day was the discussion with Sandra Milligan and Martin Westwell. They shared national progress on developing new forms of credentials that complement ATAR and present a more holistic, personalised insight into student achievement. Many schools also presented innovative case studies, including Woodleigh, Carey Grammar School, the Knox School, and Templestowe College. The Woodleigh presentations showcased the creative work that has been trialled in recent years on the development of capabilities in our programs. Congratulations to Andrew Peach, who shared his work on the development of the Teamwork capability through our Outdoor Education program, and Maya Kawashima, who shared her work on developing the Global Citizenship capability through her French classes.

One of our ReimaginED Conference features is the valuable networks and projects that have evolved out of the event. Through our leadership of the conference, Woodleigh has developed partnerships with the University of Melbourne, Learning Creates Australia, and the Mastery Transcript Consortium. In particular, these leading organisations are essential collaborators for further developing our senior secondary programs and the establishment of new, complementary pathways for our young people into the world of work, higher education, and life beyond school.
