As the new Director of Pastoral Care in the Senior Homestead, this my first contribution to Woodleigh’s Messenger, I would like to take the opportunity to extend a warm welcome to parents, carers and students who are new to the School and the Senior Homestead community.
I would also like to introduce and extend that welcome to our new Senior Homestead staff. These are;
- Dianne Fabiyanic, who joins us from Homestead 4
- Matthew Eddy who teaches Indonesian and joins us from Loreto Mandeville Hall
- Heidi Lockyer who teaches Science and joins Woodleigh from Mount Eliza Secondary College, and
- Rosalind Allen, our new Director of Careers and VET Coordinator who has returned to Woodleigh after an extended absence.
I have had the pleasure of working with both the new and existing staff over the last two weeks and I feel very fortunate to be working with such a knowledgeable and experienced team.
Personally, I am joining Woodleigh from a project role with the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA) and was the Head of Middle School at Oakleigh Grammar prior to that. I have enjoyed a warm welcome from both the staff and students, and I am very much looking forward to getting to know the students and all members of the community.
Students in the Senior Homestead have begun the School year on a positive note, settling into lessons quickly and getting straight into their work. To help get them started, the students participated in a workshop run by Elevate Education focussed on organisation, time-management and study skills. The workshops provide students with a number of strategies to support students in developing a homework calendar, summarising content and note taking, as well as managing their time well to ensure they are also looking after their wellbeing and continuing to pursue sports, hobbies and other interests.
Coming up quickly on the calendar is Homestead Night which is to be held on Tuesday 11 February. This event will be a great opportunity for parents, carers and guardians to meet new staff and hear about the academic and pastoral programmes that will be taking place during the year. I hope to see many of you there.
