Senior Homestead Update

Senior Homestead students have begun the year well, settling into the heavy workload and (for Year 11 students) their new Homestead environment.

It was great to be able to meet a number of our Senior Homestead parents at the recent Homestead Night and I trust that all parents and caregivers who attended the evening found the information useful and enjoyed the chance to have a chat with the students Tutors and other parents and carers.

Congratulations go to David Benton and Laura Maasburg for their organisation of the outdoor screening of the movie 2040 on Wednesday night this week. Whilst the weather was not kind on the night, the event was a success thanks largely to the expert emceeing by Gretel Friedlander and Cassius Tutton. The event raised $1,529.16. for the Zoos Victoria Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund and BlazeAid and more importantly promoted optimism in countering the issue of Climate Change.

A reminder to parents and carers that the Pathways team will be presenting their first event in the Parent Education Series This Tuesday evening (February 25). This event will feature Dr. Helen Street, Co-Founder of Positive Schools and author of Better than OK: Helping our young people flourish at school and beyond. Dr Street will be speaking with Senior Homestead students during the day and be presenting to parents on strategies to support positive parenting and overcoming the challenges familiar to parents of young adults. Dr Street is a renowned expert and we are very fortunate to have been able to have her visit the school. I would encourage all Senior Homestead parents to attend if you are able.

A reminder to parents that Homestead Camp Week is fast approaching, with most camps departing on March 2 and returning March 6. Homestead Camp Week offers students the chance to catch their breath after hitting the ground running and the beginning of the school year as well as the opportunity to make new friends and undertake new adventures.

Other important dates coming up this term include;

  • February 25 – Parent Information Series – Dr. Helen Street
  • March 9 – Labour Day Holiday
  • March 12 - Parent / Student Teacher interviews – 4pm–8.30pm
  • March 17 - Parent / Student Teacher interviews – 9am–8.30pm
