Strutting their Stuff: Minimbah Music

With Term 4 well underway, it was wonderful to see and hear Minimbah students 'strutting their musical stuff' at the recent Soireé. A tasty musical smorgasbord of vocal, piano, cello, drum, and guitar performances were served up and hungrily devoured by an appreciative and supportive audience.

Punctuating the soireé with more complex 'flavours', were the superb performances from Senior Campus students - Tabitha, Innes, and Tsomo.

Year 6
Students are getting their creative juices flowing by using their iPads to compose and arrange music for their buddy books.

Year 5
Students are happy to have instruments back in their hands, learning new chords and tunes to be shared with each other.

Year 4
Students are currently honing skills on a variety of instruments including boom whackers, xylophones, and piano, whilst working toward a performance of In the Hall of the Mountain King. Focus is on playing as an ensemble, individual instrumental skills, following music and being able to listen to others.

Year 3
The recorder program is in full swing and students are working toward earning different belt coloursas they progress their skills. Focus has been on how to produce a 'pleasant' sound on the recorder, which flows wonderfully through to learning other wind instruments. Also, posture, correct hand and finger position is frequently reinforced - "left hand at the top😆" All this whilst decoding music notation and expressing a melody. It's a full body and brain workout!

Year 2
We have focused on body percussion and beat-keeping. Students are currently working on a composition that will enable students to show what they can create and perform.

Foundation and Y1
Students have played simple melodies on chime bars and honed their ensemble playing and etiquette. We are currently working on a composition that will enable students to show what they understand about basic rhythmic notation.

Our choirs and ensembles (Y6 Workshop Orchestra and Rock Band) are busy preparing for end-of-year celebrations and we look forward to sharing more music with the community soon.
