Staying connected with the great happenings at our school

Dear Woodleigh families,

The Woodleigh Messenger – staying connected with the great happenings at our School

Welcome to my first edition of the fortnightly Woodleigh Messenger – an important platform to regularly communicate with you about the School and in particular our three campuses. It is a chance to highlight the great things that are happening, give a sense of the current mood of the School, based on seasons and activities and also to give the odd commentary regarding current social influences and how they impact on our students.

COVID-19 – we’re in this together

COVID-19 has brought Australians together – and together we’re fighting back. We’re following the direction of medical experts during these Stage 3 restrictions that we’re in – and it’s working, we’re flattening the curve. Be assured that I feel a strong sense of responsibility to ensure that as a School we respond appropriately. To be candid with you, this has, at times been difficult – given that instructions to schools from State and Federal Government level have been inconsistent.

Most importantly, back to school at Woodleigh

Firstly, I am hopeful that we can safely re-open our schools in the upcoming weeks; however, I trust you appreciate that for the safety of our community, we need to plan for the worst possibility – which may be mid-to-long term closure of schools.

It was a pleasure to meet and work with some small groups of students this week at all three campuses. These were ECC students and students who meet our criteria for not being able to work at home. It was great to see their smiling faces and to note how happy they are to be at school. It was also a privilege to address the Penbank students at their recent student meeting.

Please do engage with our Continuous Learning program

This week our students went back to school, and for most this was to learn at home. While this has created real challenges and frustrations; please know that our team is working around the clock to develop a sustainable digitally-enabled program. I encourage you to engage with the program at

And know that our team is motivated and working hard for the School and our Woodleigh community

On Tuesday, I was fortunate to start our staff professional learning day with an address to all staff. This was a zoom meeting with nearly 200 participants!

To see their faces across eight different pages was amazing and gave me great relief to finally be at Woodleigh and working with such a well-respected team. They were positive, energetic and greatly understood the challenge before us and the need to continue our students’ learning through this time. This comes with different expectations and the many challenges of adapting their outstanding teaching skills to new technologies. Know that we’re approaching these challenges with enthusiasm and positivity – and join me in thanking your Woodleigh team.

Until the next Woodleigh Messenger

I wish all of our families well as we collectively work through what feels like a very different term. Like you, I look forward to the day when our students can return, and I have the opportunity to meet them face-to-face.

Stay connected – stay safe,
