Welcome to 2020!

It is with great pride that I take on the Acting Principal role this term. It’s been a exciting start to the year across all three campuses and although I will continue to perform some ‘Head of Senior Campus’ duties I will make every effort to be visible across all our campuses and look forward to visiting classrooms at Minimbah and Penbank in particular. It was great to meet families at the Parent Information sessions at both Junior Campuses this week and to hand our leadership badges to our Year 6 students at Minimbah. I’m looking forward to attending Penbank’s morning meeting next week.

Class of 2019

As I mentioned in my welcome letter to families it’s been a positive start for staff as well as students, with a dynamic professional learning program to kick off our year. During my address to staff on our first day back I highlighted our successful VCE results, which I wish to emphasise here too. The results are a tribute not just to our students but also our team of dedicated Year 12 teachers, who worked tirelessly with the cohort during 2019. The students of course have been supported throughout their schooling by staff across the three campuses, from early childhood through to Junior Homestead in the Senior Campus.

I am delighted to advise that Jesse Butland is our Dux with a score of 98.95, an incredible achievement considering Jesse was accelerated into Year 11 from Year 9. We were delighted that over 41% of our cohort received an ATAR of 80 or above.  I am also pleased to advise that the VCAA have acknowledged four of our students in their Seasons of Excellence exhibition - Ainsley Barwise, Bianca Julicher and Ned Johnson for Top Arts and Griffin O’Neill for Top Screen. Ned and Griffin have been shortlisted which is an incredible achievement. Their work can be viewed at the NGV and ACMI overt the coming months - see and (follow the links for more details). Many of you will have seen Griffin’s short film ‘Time Well Spent’ at the Media Night during Arts Week last year. We also gave a repeat showing at Monday’s Senior Campus assembly. The assembly was also an opportunity to celebrate all students across Years 8 to 12 for their achievements last year.

Our destination data reveals that Woodleigh continues to graduate students with a diverse range of interests, who continue on to a broad range of tertiary and career options.
