Winding up 2021 and preparing for 2022

Dear Woodleigh Community,

It is with some sense of relief that I write to wish you a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays. After a challenging year, I hope everyone can stop, breathe, and enjoy some downtime with friends and family. Whilst I am optimistic that those travelling interstate can do so, I also hope you can find time to relax and surround yourself with loved ones.

As I write this article, the school is simultaneously winding up 2021 and preparing for 2022. Our new Year 7 students are onsite having fun as part of their orientation to Senior Campus, and we have welcomed new parents to both Penbank and Minimbah in recent weeks. Our Year 6 and Year 12 Classes have all graduated in style and with much excitement. At the same time, Perberkoong was both great entertainment and a fantastic night simply because it was the first time we could come together as a whole school in many, many months.

I wish our Year 12s the very best for the future. This week they receive their VCE results, and for many, it will be a time of great excitement as they make decisions regarding their educational and career futures. For others, those decisions are already made, and receiving their results will be an affirming end to what has been a tumultuous two years.

Wherever these young people go next year, I am sure they will be successful as they apply their confidence and independence to any work or study environment. Woodleigh has prepared them well.

As 2021 comes to an end, we stop and reset for the year ahead. I am excited about what 2022 can offer at Woodleigh. A year for us to focus on the future and start talking about our plans for the remainder of this decade. A year where we can enjoy many varied Woodleigh experiences and not be restricted to the online environments which are so far from what a Woodleigh education aspires to be. And finally, a year where we can all connect as a community and create that collective sense of belonging that is so important to us all.

Until then, have a great break. I look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
