Deputy Head of Penbank Campus – Administration and Wellbeing
The Deputy Head of Campus – Administration and Wellbeing supports the Head of Campus with the leadership, management and daily operation of the junior campus, Penbank. This is a Full-Time ongoing position, commencing 2020.

The Deputy Head has a key leadership role in relation to student and staff wellbeing, and the management of day-to-day operations to ensure the overall effective running of the junior campus. The role includes close collaboration on wellbeing and administration matters with the other Deputy Heads of Campus and will also support the Deputy Head of Teaching and Learning in relation to the leadership of curriculum and reporting matters. The Deputy Head will take on responsibility for the overall leadership of the campus, in the absence of the Head of Campus or as required by the Head of Campus or Principal.
The possible scope of organisational and administrative responsibilities for the position are listed below and will be negotiated with the Principal, prior to commencement.
- Supporting the Head of Campus with the leadership and management of the day-to-day operation of the campus
- Effective leadership, collaboration with and support for all staff involved in managing the wellbeing and care of students at the Junior Campus
- Supporting the Deputy Head Teaching and Learning – PYP with leadership and efficient management of PYP implementation, in line with IB and VCAA expectations
- Supporting the Head of Wellbeing to lead effective collaboration with staff from across the three campuses to enhance the quality of wellbeing for all students and staff
- Demonstrated appreciation and utilisation of the opportunities offered by the school and external organisations towards the establishment of a positive culture of wellbeing
- Effective contribution to the development and implementation of staff professional learning to support campus administration, and the delivery of staff and student wellbeing programs
- Demonstrated commitment to continual improvement of own practice as a teacher and leader, and to sharing experience and expertise with colleagues
- Developing a robust approach to the development and review of wellbeing programs to ensure a consistently positive learning environment.
- Keeping up-to-date with and sharing current developments in pedagogy, wellbeing and student engagement with all staff.
- Motivating staff to keep their professional practice current through the use of research and new technologies.
- Developing a coaching culture that encourages feedback to and from students and teachers based on evidence.
- Setting high expectations for the campus through careful collaborative planning, monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of learning and professional practice
- Leading change and innovation at a campus level, including communicating the need for change to stakeholders, as well as supporting whole school initiatives
- Engaging and inspiring staff to commit to evidence-based improvement that has a positive impact on student wellbeing and learning.
- Assisting the Head of Campus to lead the implementation of the School’s strategic plan
- Deputising for the Head of Campus and representing the campus/school at internal and external events, as required.
- Contribute as required to the planning and leadership of campus based and cross-campus meetings, in collaboration with Head of Campus and Deputy Head of T&L - PYP
- Assisting the Head of Campus with the establishment and maintenance of systems for communication and collaboration among all staff members
- Supporting the Deputy Head of T&L - PYP to lead implementation of the PYP across the junior campuses
- Organising and leading information sessions on wellbeing for a variety of audiences including staff, students and parents
- Assisting with the leadership of the staff evaluation and development processes
- Assisting the Head of Campus with the selection, appointment and deployment of staff
- Regular participation in leadership meetings, as required
- Supporting and leading cross-campus and campus specific meetings, as required
- Assist with appropriate induction/mentoring of new staff
- Develop and maintain a network of professional relationships with leaders, educators and schools at local, regional and global levels
- Lead review, development and implementation of organisational and administrative policy documents
- Active involvement in the enrolment process for new students and families, including interviews, tours, parent information sessions and advertising
- Assist with the management of the campus budget
- Oversee effective management and organisation of resources to achieve goals
- Oversee management of learning spaces, including maintenance requests
- Ensuring that the School’s policies on administration, safe and supportive environments, and wellbeing are implemented fairly and consistently
- Support the management of day-to-day organisation and administration of the campus
- Support the management of the campus calendar of events
- Support daily covers for staff absences
- Support employment and induction of casual teachers
- Support and organisation of special or major events
- Support and organisation of parent information evenings
- Management of variations to routine
- Support the organisation of staffing for off-site events including excursions and camps
- Support the development of the timetable
- Oversight of camps and excursions
- Support, organisation and running of assemblies
- Monitoring the wearing of school uniforms
- Assistance with the monitoring of attendance
- Monitoring the safe and positive playground rules and routines
- Work in collaboration with the campus Pathways team
- An advocate for inclusive and culturally respectful relationships
- Lead the implementation of the School’s approach to student wellbeing
- Leading and managing the development and delivery of wellbeing programs at the campus
- Monitoring the Wellbeing Policy and Guidelines, and liaising with parents as appropriate
- Meeting with teachers regarding student wellbeing, learning, organisational or general matters
- Management and support of individual student behaviour issues
- Organisation or presentation at parent information evenings on Wellbeing topics
- Convene and chair regular student wellbeing meetings and staff meetings, as required
Teaching and Learning
- Assist with leadership and management of staff professional learning in relation to PYP, in liaison with Deputy Head of Teaching and Learning – PYP
- Support alignment of teaching and learning with the expectations outlined in the relevant unit planners and with the pedagogical principles of the PYP
- Promote an inclusive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of students
- Collaborate with relevant leaders and leadership teams to review practices and initiate actions that provide support for all students
- Keep up to date with and share current research and developments relevant to the PYP
- Assist with the development and implementation of assessment, recording and reporting policies, processes and standards
- Liaising and communicating with parents regarding the program and the progress of their children
- Assist the Deputy Head of T&L - PYP to determine appropriate resource support, teacher development and future requirements for program delivery
- Assist with the production of contributions to publications such as the Primary Years Programme Handbook
- Assist with the preparation and submission of all relevant documentation for processes such as authorisation and evaluation of PYP, NAPLAN and other testing as required
- Attend meetings and proactively contribute to the broader leadership, planning and alignment of PYP delivery
- Support and, as required, lead collaborative planning for implementation of the PYP
- Collaborate with the Deputy Head of Teaching and Learning - PYP to develop and lead a responsive teacher development program in line with programme needs
Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience or skills in the following areas:
Experience and Skills:
- Experience with/understanding of effective school leadership, with a clear vision of personal philosophy/direction
- Experience/training in school administration
- Commitment to ongoing development of knowledge and understanding of the pedagogies and practices relevant to primary school settings
- Experience in leading and managing a team
- Experience in leading and managing the implementation of wellbeing programs and associated principles, beliefs, curriculum requirements, processes, and protocols
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, good negotiation and influencing skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- High computer literacy and a degree of competency in the use of learning technology
Education and Qualifications:
- Appropriate tertiary qualification in Education.
Highly desirable skills:
- Prior leadership experience in school leadership and administration
- A knowledge of and experience with current educational trends in the PYP and primary education
- Experience and/or a strong interest in leading student and staff wellbeing is desirable.
