The curriculum at Minimbah is dynamic, engaging and tailored to suit the individual needs and interests of every student.

International Baccalaureate – Primary Years Programme

Woodleigh School introduced the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) at its Junior Campuses in 2019. The implementation process is a multi-year initiative that will see teachers and school leaders from Minimbah and Penbank gradually adopting the PYP to guide collaborative planning, teaching, learning, assessment and reporting from ECC to Year 6. The PYP is a natural fit for the Woodleigh School Personalised Learning Model which aims to develop independent, resilient, creative and compassionate individuals who can find personal success in life, while making a positive contribution to the communities in which they live. **

Foundation – Year 4

The Foundation–Year 4 curriculum is carefully planned to engage students in learning that is purposeful, relevant and promotes the development of the whole child. Teaching and learning approaches and experiences accommodate all learning styles across the curriculum. Classroom programs are complemented by a variety of specialist teachers and support staff. The Victorian Curriculum (based on the Australian Curriculum) content and standards, and the IB PYP, are used for planning. However, what makes us different is how we engage our students.

Through experiential learning, teacher and student guided inquiries with a focus on skill and concept development, our students can connect with learning that is meaningful and relevant to their lives now and into the future. Our academic programs develop confident, literate, numerate problem solvers who have the skills, concepts and understandings to support them as active, capable and mindful global citizens.

The 5/6 Homestead

The 5/6 Homestead is a mindful learning community that encourages the development of independence and personal responsibility. Being part of the community helps students to develop a sense of belonging, while building the interpersonal skills essential to success in everyday life beyond school.

Philosophy and Program

The 5/6 Homestead is an integrated set of purposeful indoor and outdoor spaces specifically designed to promote student engagement and rich learning. Environmental Science is a key focus of the 5/6 Homestead program, with students engaged in a diverse range of learning activities designed to educate them about the world in which they live and how they can help preserve it for future generations.

A key focus for learning in the 5/6 Homestead is the consolidation and extension of core skills across key subject areas such as English, Mathematics, Science and the Humanities. Individual student needs are addressed through a combination of fluid, purposeful groupings that best target individual learning needs and offer an appropriate level of challenge for all members of the Homestead.

Significant learning occurs through our interaction with others. Through the development of a small learning community in the 5/6 Homestead, the quality of interaction between all members is enhanced. Older students serve as role models for younger students by taking a leadership role in cross-age tutoring, Student Parliament, Specialist, Homestead and Activities Programs.

We express our trust and confidence in our students through the responsibilities we give them. Year 5/6 students are guided and encouraged to develop skills that allow them to monitor, manage and direct their own personal learning. It is our hope that through the development of these skills and with the attainment of this knowledge, they will be able to transfer this learning to all other aspects of their future lives.
